Cascadia Kickstarter Edition is HERE!

Hooray!  Hooray! 🎉🎉🎉

This is an absolutely WONDERFUL dual-layer, tile-laying, puzzley-vibe, Pacific Northwest wilderness romp by Randy Flynn… featuring the wonderful artwork of Beth Sobel (Wingspan, Viticulture Essential, Calico and others). I’ve embedded links to their BGG pages in their names if you’d care to have a browse…

This is Randy’s first published release and it is absolutely fantastic!! Really… this game is SO darn good! At the time of this listing (SEP 2021) the game is already ranked at #81 on BGG.. and it’s only been out for a month or so! WOW!

Of course… as you might imagine… Randy is ALSO an absolutely wonderful human being… and I feel privileged to count him among my friends.

If you check out the embedded BGG links above you will see him listed as the designer for Tabriz and Rolling up Roses as well…. but, you won’t be able to find those games in a store just yet… as they’re not completely through the publishing pipeline.

Let me tell you right now.  They are also AMAZING and you will want to add them to your collection as soon as you see them on Kickstarter. Of course, if you miss them there.. you know you can find them here at Upstart. Wonderful games by amazing designers here on Upstart? What?? Hahaha…

I’ve played the prototypes of each… and they are both very solid games! Tabriz in particular just hits ALL the wickets for me… sooooooo sweet! Every time I see Randy and Marlene I ask to play. That one is going to replace Yokohama in my collection as most played… no doubt. ❤️

LOVE.

IT.

And LOVE Cascdia!

Sooooo good! Every time you wrap up a game… you will not be able to help yourself. You will say, “Anyone want to play that again?” and someone will start setting it back up. It is that good… and since you can get a game in with only an hour free on your busy schedule… replays will happen a LOT!

And, I hear that there aren’t many Kickstarter versions available right now… so hopefully the copies I have here will help you out 😉

Another short write-up 😬😅

If you’ve been checking out any of the other new games on the site, you’ll see that my timeline for September is really crunched!

I accepted a part-time gig where I get the option of back-filling a doctor who runs the clinic on a US Navy submarine research base in the Bahamas. Yeah… exactly. The Bahamas. Sooooo… even though I really did not want to work.. I could not refuse this awesome opportunity!

And now I find myself trying to prepare for that (paperwork, orientation, etc) and complete all the ongoing projects in my life… all before I fly off on the 22nd of September for my first gig. And I have a wedding to attend in North Carolina in two weeks… argh! Anyway… enough about my intriguing (?) life… haha. Let’s get some links going so you can learn about this game!

Link line up!

You can find the original Kickstarter campaign HERE.

A FANTASTIC overview and how-to-play video by AnnaMaria over at Girl’s Game Shelf can be found HERE.  If you only watch one video… THIS is the one!

Another SOLID video can be found HERE. This is a well-done preview/overview of Cascadia by Theo of Geeky Gaymer Guy! OK… maybe watch two videos. 😁

And rounding out the video blast on Cacscadia… we have Rhado’s run-through and preview HERE.

This game is a WIN… and it is definitely firing on ALL cylinders…

A wonderful, puzzley-vibe, tile-laying game… with a fantastic harmony-in-nature vibe… that plays quickly (under an hour) and is easy to teach… Uh, yeah. I need this game!! 🥰

Sooooo… snag that KS edition while they’re still available and get Cascadia to your table  I mean, if board gaming is your thing and all… 🤓

Description

Cascadia Kickstarter Edition by Flatout Games! Soooooo sweet! 🧁

Cascadia is a puzzly tile-laying and token-drafting game featuring the habitats and wildlife of the Pacific Northwest.

In the game, you take turns building out your own terrain area and populating it with wildlife. You start with three hexagonal habitat tiles (with five types of habitat in the game), and on a turn you choose a new habitat tile that’s paired with a wildlife token, then place that tile next to your other ones and place the wildlife token on an appropriate habitat. (Each tile depicts 1-3 types of wildlife from the five types in the game, and you can place at most one tile on a habitat.) Four tiles are on display, with each tile being paired at random with a wildlife token, so you must make the best of what’s available — unless you have a nature token to spend so that you can pick your choice of each item.

Ideally you can place habitat tiles to create matching terrain that reduces fragmentation and creates wildlife corridors, mostly because you score for the largest area of each type of habitat at game’s end, with a bonus if your group is larger than each other player’s. At the same time, you want to place wildlife tokens so that you can maximize the number of points scored by them, with the wildlife goals being determined at random by one of the three scoring cards for each type of wildlife. Maybe hawks want to be separate from other hawks, while foxes want lots of different animals surrounding them and bears want to be in pairs. Can you make it happen?
