This is the Kickstarter Edition of the game!  Complete with the first two expansions – Cosmic Companions and Princess of Despair!! ….at a price that works!

What a beautiful game!!!

The imagery is amazing… and the components are really well done.

In a nutshell, you move your character around the Cosmic Map collecting sweet wooden bits (memory fragments) to help the Nameless Girl restore her memory by working to complete beautifully drawn memory fragment cards for points!!  Final scoring bonus if you can link the artwork in your tableaux and thereby complete the beautiful landscapes.  The mechanisms keep your brain engaged while the artwork makes it a pleasure to experience this game unfolding on the table.

Which leads me to my next thought…. This is a BEAUTIFUL game.  Oh wait, I mentioned that already 😉

This game combines a good bit of mental gymnastics/puzzle solving with a fun theme that enhances the game play!  It’s not a heavy Euro by any means.  I would say that this game fits solidly into the light to medium Euro category; with a “puzzley” vibe from start to finish.  My gaming friends and I really enjoy getting this one to the table!  And, the one-hour-or-so play time makes it a great game for a double header on game night… or a fun main event on a night where we need to get up for work the next day.

In summary: This is a really fun, easy-to-learn, uniquely themed game from the good people over at Asteria Games….

If you think it’s something you might like, pick up a copy today.  This game is definitely included in my personal list of “gate-way” games.  It has enough substance to keep committed board gamers happy, while being light enough to avoid overwhelming your friends who agree to give board gaming a try.

And now a word from Asteria Games 😉

[What follows is their Kickstarter campaign description of the interesting “binary” nature of the game’s mechanics]

Important: This game has a theme of memory, but it is NOT a Memory Game. It belongs to the categories of Set Collection and Tableau Building.

The most fascinating feature in Deja Vu is a “Binary System” in which you manage two completely different but seamlessly interacting mechanisms at once. To win the game, you must perform well both tactically and strategically.

In the tactical part, we use a developed version of the ancient “Mancala” mechanism that was brilliantly reintroduced in modern board game by Bruno Cathala in Five Tribes. Players collect wooden tokens on the map with various combinations of color and shape, and both the color and shape are essential to success! The process of collecting is a pleasantly perplexing mind puzzle.

In the strategic part, players use the wooden tokens they gained to add cards to their tableau, building up their “card engine” which serves to generate Victory Points, reinforce resources collecting ability, and improve the engine itself. Should I increase my selection of cards first? Or create more space to save up my resources? Maybe I should plant more Cosmic Flowers? Balanced and efficient long-term planning is the key to victory.

The central Cosmic Map, besides being a place to hold resources, is also a playground for a contest over the precious “Memory Fragments” which, when paired with the right cards, can earn an enormous amount of Victory Points for you!

Easy to learn, fun to play, deeply thoughtful, with a beautiful theme, this is Deja Vu.

[I couldn’t have said it better myself!]

Description

As the nameless girl returned to consciousness, she found herself lying in an egg-like space pod, holding a bowl of blue luminous flowers.

“Where is it… who am I?” – she did not remember anything.

Looking out through the fuselage window, a shooting star darted across the sunny green sky. Suddenly a strong Deja Vu feeling struck her mind – something important must had happened to her there in the past.

In the space pod’s computer, there was a black box with records of all the planets it had visited. Bewildered but resolute, she set out to experience her journey once again reversely, in the hope of rediscovering all her lost memories.

In the game of Deja Vu: Fragments of Memory, players are mysterious beings called Cosmic Spirits, helping the Nameless Girl collect her scattered memories across the universe: Whether these be the color of a sunset, the curve of a crescent moon, the twinkling of distant stars, the flash of lightning, the weight of raindrops, or any tiniest impressions. Bring these together into a coherent picture in her mind to restore her memories.

And so the interstellar odyssey of the Nameless Girl beings…
