Foundations of Rome Emperor Pledge Bundles! Gardens of Ceres module… metal first player token… you get the idea! 😁
OK… first up in my continuing effort to be clear in the listings (smile)… What sort of options do we have here?
OK… there are two base bundles – Emperor Pledge with sundrop wash and Gardens of Ceres solo module, and Emperor’s Pledge without sundrop wash and Gardens of Ceres solo module. Both of these bundles come with the metal first player marker! Please note that the game mats are NOT included with these bundles! Game mats are available for separate purchase. The game mats each come with a soft-sided carrying case with shoulder strap.
For easy reference (smile #2), the Emperor Pledge includes: 5th Player Expansion, Monuments Expansion, Metal Coins, Hidden Objectives Card Pack, Trading & Stealing Card Pack, Invocations and Player Roles Pack.
Also, please note that the game box is HUGE! The Emperor’s pledge box itself weighs 20 pounds and measures 17″ x 15″ x 14″ – Please plan accordingly on your gaming shelf!
Limited post with link to FANTASTIC write-up by my good friend, Shawn over on BGG…
Hello Upstart team!
Well, I had these great plans to get all the new stuff listed before I came home in July so that you’d have a chance to order whatever you wanted earlier than usual. But, although I got started on that, life changed dramatically as the company that runs the base where I was working in The Bahamas decided to essentially shut-down the clinic on base! Yikes! There’s a long backstory involving cost savings (of course)… but at the end of the day, that shifted my departure from the island back to June and also kept me from finishing all the write-ups; since I was packing to leave instead! My life! Ha!
So, here we are.
I did some classic write ups for Wonderland’s War, Planet Unknown Deluxe, Perseverance Castaways, and a handful of Trickerion bundles… but with the unexpected life upheaval, I’m shifting to a few “limited” write ups so I can get the new content out there!
My friend Shawn to the rescue!!
Making this decision even easier is the fact that I can steer you over to my good friend Shawn’s review on BGG.com, where he waxes poetic about how in love he is with Foundations of Rome. As a ready reference, Shawn has a collection in the thousands… and has been gaming seemingly since the beginning of time itself! He is far more knowledgeable about games than I am or ever will be… and he has yet to steer me toward a game I didn’t thoroughly enjoy! 🎯
Seriously, he has a LOT of experience… and he also enjoys the sorts of games that I enjoy… so it works perfectly for an Upstart reference!
Related side note number 1 million… 😂 Shawn and I actually met through Upstart Boardgamer and then crossed paths at a convention, played a ton of games, and then subsequently went to a few cons together! We game online with a group of friends most Thursday nights using Board Game Arena (as we got lazy and now feel like Tabletop Simulator is just too much work.. hahaha).

Bits review
Boooooooooop! Flatline. Tilt tilt tilt!!! 🚨
Holy Mackerel! 🐟 This game is INSANELY sweet in the bits category. Of course it is also incredibly fun and well designed… but the bits put this over the top!
The buildings and monuments and all the various molded plastic components are gorgeous! The wash is INSANE! But, the unwashed are still really impressive (and a smidge cheaper and better for painting from what my painting enthusiast buddies tell me)… so either way you cannot go wrong! Production value is superb across the board for all the various upgraded components… and the tray system that stows it all in the MASSIVE box… breathtaking.
Here’s a link to the original Kickstarter so you can check out the campaign –> LINK IS HERE!
In summary (albeit a summary of a very brief summary… ahem) this is a FANTASTIC production of an amazingly fun and easy to learn game that still retains plenty of strategic depth decision making. Add on the fact that the incredible molded structures and pieces are INSANELY sweet… and well, this is another Upstart instant hit! Soooooooo goooooodddd!
Game on, my friends… Game ON!
